A reputable property development firm in Cambridge is seeking an Interim Senior Development Manager. This role focuses on acting as the Master Developer for a significant project with complex infrastructure, overseeing the delivery of affordable housing. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in residential development, relevant qualifications, and possess the ability to manage various stakeholders effectively. A flexible remuneration package is offered, making this a competitive opportunity for the right professional.
In a market where average house prices are over 13x the average income, the delivery of high-quality affordable housing alongside private units is not just a planning obligation—it’s a social necessity.
I am representing a highly regarded, locally-based developer who understands this balance better than most. They are looking for a safe pair of hands to steer a flagship strategic site through its critical delivery phase.
As their Interim Senior Development Manager, you will act as the "Client" and "Master Developer" on a significant scheme involving complex infrastructure, parcel coordination, and affordable housing delivery. Reporting directly to the Senior Management Team, you will step in to drive momentum from day one.
Acting as Master Developer: Coordinating parcel developers, infrastructure delivery, and technical interfaces across the wider scheme.
Commercial Management: managing the external professional team (QS, EA, Clerk of Works) and owning the construction budget/cashflow.
Registered Provider (RP) Management: You will be the linchpin in managing the Development Agreement, ensuring affordable units are delivered to spec and on time.
The "Red Tape": Taking ownership of S106 discharges, S38/S104 adoptions, and legal completions.
The Experience: You have a proven track record in the delivery of residential or mixed-use schemes, ideally within a Master Developer environment.
The Qualification: Degree qualified and preferably Chartered (MRICS, MCIOB, or MAPM).
The Attitude: You are a "finisher." You understand that value is realised at handover, not just at planning approval. You are comfortable challenging variations and driving contractor performance.
We are open to discussing either a Fixed Term Contract salary or a Day Rate arrangement for the right individual. While the package is structured within the commercial parameters of a regional developer, we are committed to securing a high-calibre delivery specialist and offer a competitive package reflective of the local market.
Direct Access: Your application won’t sit in a portal; it goes directly to the decision-maker with my recommendation.
Market Insight: I can provide the context on the specific site and the wider portfolio that isn't public knowledge.
Next Steps This is an immediate requirement for a January start. If you are a consultant or contractor coming to the end of a project and fit the above profile, please reach out to discuss the project specifics.
