Overview
Under general supervision of the IT Infrastructure Manager, the IT Install Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and documenting low-voltage cabling, network hardware, security camera systems, and battery backup units. This position also assists with a variety of IT-related installation and support tasks, which may include office equipment set-up and relocation, to ensure the effective delivery of technology services across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Install and terminate ethernet and fiber optic cabling according to industry standards and codes
- Pull cable through walls, ceilings, and conduits while maintaining safety and compliance
- Install, configure, and maintain IP-based security cameras and network video recorders
- Deploy and service uninterruptible power supplies and other IT-related power backup systems
- Label, document, and maintain records of all installed cable and hardware
- Assist with basic network hardware setup, including patching and switch port configuration
- Test and certify cable runs to ensure optimal performance
- Coordinate installation schedules to minimize service disruptions
- Troubleshoot installation issues and perform repairs as needed
- Maintain tools, equipment, and installation supplies in good working order
- Perform general IT support and related duties as assigned, including assisting with office setups, equipment moves, and other technology-related tasks
- Performs related duties as required.
Requirements / Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required, associate degree in information technology, electronics, or a related field preferred
- One to three years of experience in low-voltage cabling installation, network hardware setup, or related IT field work
- Experience with Cat6 and fiber optic installation, termination, and testing
- Familiarity with IP-based security camera systems and network video recorders
- Basic knowledge of network switching, patching, and configuration
- Must have valid driver’s license, clean driving record and be able to pass a FBI / CJIS fingerprint and background checks.
Note travel between buildings; may require evenings or weekends.
