Weare looking for a candidate who has an understanding of designing and measuringoutcomes and impacts of health research-related programmes, practical knowledgein Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning framework and applications of relevantevaluation tools.

TheImpact and Evaluation Managers work alongside two Senior Impact Managersand a Senior Impact Officer, to support the delivery of NIHRs strategicambitions with respect to impact.

In this role, you will work with other team membersand develop and manage a variety of impact assessment tasks including casestudies, logic models, data management and evaluation of the schemes andprogrammes that form part of the NIHRs portfolio to demonstrate the differenceNIHR makes to the health sector and the wider society in the country.

We use a number ofways to demonstrate impact, and you will be instrumental in supporting this.Within NIHR Academy you will provide support with the identification anddevelopment of impact case studies, and you will take a lead role in planningand delivering impact focused evaluation activities. We work closely withimpact colleagues across NIHR coordinating centres and you will take asignificant role in building relationships, and delivering on impact relatedworkstreams across NIHR.

Job responsibilities

Impactdevelopment and management

  • Prepareand provide guidance for Impact assessment pathways for programmes andawards;
  • Responsiblefor production, and validation, of case studies, impact portfolio of NIHRAcademy schemes and programmes;
  • Usingqualitative and quantitative methods and analysis, take the lead indelivering smaller evaluations and, offer support on larger evaluations ofNIHR programmes and initiatives;
  • Liaisewith external stakeholders and other funders to monitor and track progressionof NIHR Academy award holders;
  • Managechange in response to external events and new policies; this may require thereformulation and adjustment of plans and strategies to ensure that theimpact assessments for programmes and projects in the post holders portfolioremain fit for purpose;
  • Providesupport for the development of impact assessment methods for the portfolio ofNIHR Academy programmes;
  • Workwith the NIHR Academy Executive Board to plan and implement the process foradministering the schemes in the post holders area of responsibility;
  • Playa key role in planning the annual cycle and timing of Impact reports andassessments in the post holders area of responsibility;
  • RepresentNIHR Academy Executive, by taking a lead on cross-NIHR Impact relatedprojects and other collaborative activities;
  • Responsiblefor adapting / designing information systems, such as the NIHR Academy casestudy identification tool, to meet the specifications of others;
  • Writereports, working papers, and prepare slide decks as required; and
  • Researchand publicise outputs and impacts of the programmes in the post holder'sportfolio.

Communicationsand Engagement

  • Maintainregular liaison with wider NIHR Impact groups and keep the NIHR AcademyExecutive Board informed of work progress or any issues;
  • Publicisethe NIHR Academy activities through attendance and presentations at externalmeetings, seminars and conferences;
  • Dealwith a range of people nationally at all levels of seniority both internaland external to the NIHR Academy in line with DHSC policies;
  • Organiseworkshops and stakeholder meetings as required;
  • Generateand maintain strong nationally- based networks and positive workingrelationships within HEIs, CCGs and other health-related organisations,particularly at the level of senior research leaders/sponsors to benefit theNIHR Academy programmes;
  • Contributeto briefings requested from Ministers offices and other governmentdepartments;
  • Liaisewith members of the NIHR Academy Executive Board and Senior ProgrammeManagers in order to meet responsibilities and undertake dutieseffectively;and
  • Workclosely with the NIHR Academy Evaluation, Business Intelligence and Impactteam to ensure that they have sufficient Impact information to be able torespond quickly to Information Requests, Parliamentary questions and longterm analysis.
