Imaging Assistant

The closing date is 02 January 2026

Hours: 37.5 hrs per week across seven days, Permanent position with full and part time hours available, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

Are you looking for a new challenge in the new year? If so, why not consider becoming an Imaging Assistant within the Imaging department at Milton Keynes University Hospital.

It is an exciting time to join the Trust as a new scanning centre is due to open in Spring 2026 and there are two Community Diagnostic Centres at Lloyds Court and Whitehouse Park.

Your role will involve prioritising patient care by transporting them safely to and from Imaging and caring for them during their time in the various modalities in Imaging, such as Ultrasound, CT and MRI. There will also be housekeeping duties, and some administrative tasks. We will also invest in your own personal development, with a period of induction, receiving training in venepuncture and cannulation and completion of the care certificate. As you will be working across all three sites driving is essential.

To assist Radiologists, Radiographers, Sonographers, Assistant Practitioners and Clerical staff undertake a wide variety of tasks throughout the department, as part of the multidisciplinary team, to ensure service efficiency, whilst maintaining high standards of patient‑centred care.

Maintain knowledge and understanding of the range of examinations undertaken within the Imaging Department so that appropriate support and care can be given.

Job responsibilities

Demonstrate awareness and respond to the wellbeing of a wide range of patients. Have comprehensive knowledge of a variety of CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy and General X‑ray examinations. Operating within all Imaging Modalities. Use acquired clinical knowledge to answer questions about Radiology examinations when making appointments and communicating with service users. Work across all modalities within Imaging such as CT, MRI, Ultrasound, X‑ray, Mobile X‑ray, Theatres, A&E, Interventional Radiology, and Fluoroscopy.

Be fully conversant with all aspects of Radiology Information System and use the system for administrative tasks such as attending patients, post‑processing examinations, booking appointments and assisting with queries. Provide administrative support, answer the phone and deal with queries as appropriate.

Demonstrate and apply a working knowledge of Ionising Radiation Regulations 1999 (IRR99), Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations (IRMER), MRI safety, moving and handling, health and safety, infection control and information governance policies, as applied in each clinical area. Be prepared for potentially distressing or aggressive situations and behave appropriately. Liaise with ward staff to co‑ordinate inpatient preparation and appointment booking for Radiological procedures. Liaise with paediatric team for booking MRIs under sedation for young children, send out appointments and provide relevant information to parents/carers in advance.
