About the role

The Identity and Security Engineer will be hands‑on in building industry‑leading technical security platforms that protect the integrity of identities, systems, applications and data.

You will utilise your technical and industry experience to deliver across a broad landscape and directly affect the organisation's short‑term and long‑term projects.

This is a permanent role ideally located in the vibrant Boots Support Office in Nottingham.

Key responsibilities

You will sit within a team of engineers, as part of the InfoSec function, that defines and builds main identity and security platforms for release into Production. The team reports into the Head of Identity and Security Engineering but will lead, and be led by others in the team, to deliver key deliverables as part of a conscientious, efficient, and sociable team.

  • Design and implement identity solutions across a variety of SaaS and on‑prem platforms.
  • Enable and continuously improve the automation of processes within the wider identity and access management team leading to effective, timely and scalable operations.
  • Ensure technical development within identity and access management is aligned to driving improvements in wider system development and Production operating procedures.
  • Ensure identity and access management development and automation is clearly documented providing knowledge share to the wider security team as appropriate.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new solutions and improvements to existing capabilities; identify and propose practicable proportionate continual improvements.
  • Collaborate with other business teams to facilitate project delivery.
  • Input and guidance to security related technical architecture and design decisions.
  • Code review of features and critical security components.
  • Contribute and support during incidents, where escalated, ensuring participation in post‑incident reviews and reporting.
  • Stay abreast of current industry trends relevant to the business and cybersecurity.
  • Ensure currency of documentation for engineering changes and technical documentation as well as to perform knowledge transfer to other team members.
What you'll need to have
  • Experience of design and delivery related to Identity Management Systems, e.g. Okta, EntraID, Ping, etc.
  • Understanding of Identity Lifecycle Management, Privileged Access Management, Role Based Access Control and Identity Governance.
  • Experience with automation and developer tooling (CI/CD)
  • Ability in demonstrating strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
  • Experience working with security protocols and standards, log tools and packet analysers, scripting languages and security management suites.
  • Experience of PKI certificate management and encryption technologies
  • Knowledge of user directories including AD, EntraID, EIDC (AADC) and LDAP technologies
  • Experience establishing & maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organisation, in the business community & with vendors.
  • A strong focus on user experience for process and system design.
  • Demonstrable strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Keen interest in cybersecurity related challenges and technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
It would be great if you also have
  • Experience working with API product development (Java) Working knowledge of open standards such as SAML, OAuth and OpenID
  • Connection integration protocols.
  • Strong scripting and JSON skills.
  • Experience of planning tools such Azure DevOps.
  • Deep knowledge of Active Directory FSMO roles, Group Policy implementation, and AD Sites and Services Design
