Job DescriptionHVAC Engineer for RoRo Passenger ferry

Department: Engine

Employment Type: Contract

Location: Shipboard

Description

We are looking for an experienced AC Engineer to join the RoRo Passenger ferry ROSALIND FRANKLIN. The position is available for an immediate embarkation, with a contract duration of 3 months on/off. Candidates must have all valid certificates and good references/recommendations.

Position Summary

  1. Maintain safe and efficient operation of HVAC/Refrigeration systems and Engine Room ventilation, in accordance with company policies, international standards, and regulations.
  2. Perform repair and maintenance inside and outside the HVAC/Refrigeration section and Engine Room Ventilation system safely and efficiently.
  3. Oversee maintenance and repair activities, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  4. Maintain detailed work records, reports, logs, and lists.
  5. Coordinate effectively with technical departments and personnel.

Reporting Structure

  1. Report to the Chief Engineer.

Safety Duties:

  1. Participate in crew safety drills.
  2. Comply with safety and pollution prevention regulations.
  3. Lead by example in health and safety practices.
  4. Ensure proper use of safety equipment and provide training when necessary.

Qualifications:

  1. Valid STCW 95 certification.
  2. Valid refrigerant gases handling certificate.
  3. Appropriate regulatory certifications.
  4. Physically and medically fit.
  5. High moral integrity.
  6. Additional training in Public Health, Sanitation, and Environment is a plus.
  7. Ability to read technical drawings and manuals proficiently.
  8. Experience in Alaska waters is advantageous.
  9. Experience with Coast Guard and Port State Control inspections is beneficial.

Language and Computer Skills:

Fluent English (verbal, written, and technical) is essential. Proficiency in AMOS and Microsoft Office applications is required.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Ability to stand, walk long distances, reach, sit, and perform repetitive motions. Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. Overtime and irregular schedules are expected. Work environment includes engine control rooms and engine spaces with noise and distractions.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Maintain equipment records, schedules, and work orders using AMOS.
  2. Keep detailed logs of repairs, parts used, and conditions found.
  3. Manage HVAC/Refrigeration equipment including compressors, pipes, pumps, and valves.
  4. Maintain insulation, seals, and gaskets for doors and coolers.
  5. Create detailed work lists and reports for the team.
  6. Ensure cleanliness and safety of equipment spaces.
  7. Provide handover reports and coordinate with the incoming engineer.
  8. Log overtime and ensure compliance with company policies.
  9. Train and supervise junior staff.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer.
