Overview

A&P Tyne Human Resources Advisor

Are you ready to take the next step in your HR career and join the #dreamteam? We are recruiting for a passionate and dedicated individual to join our APCL HR team as an HR Advisor to provide a first-class service to our Tyne site. A key addition to our HR Team, you will work alongside our current HR Advisor to support a 300+ strong workforce, partnering with managers to resolve situations fairly and consistently with confidence and care.

You'll bring emotional intelligence and practical HR expertise to drive real impact in employee relations and wellbeing, policy development and organisational change. This role is 100% site-based, working closely with internal teams and on-site customers managing complex, heavy engineering projects.

About APCL: APCL is one of the largest commercial ship repair, conversion and marine specialists in the UK. We support the Royal Navy, Royal Fleet Auxiliary and commercial customers, sustaining defence and maritime operations. At A&P Tyne we are an ambitious facility, part of APCL Group with around 2,000 people across the North East, South West and North West, and a diverse, skilled workforce dedicated to delivering a broad range of services.

What you will do

  • You will be key in supporting a large workforce; your ability to confidently coach and support leaders at all levels will ensure great people management across the facility independently and effectively
  • You will manage complex HR cases, including disciplinary actions, and master record keeping. Workload prioritisation and the ability to identify potential risks from high volumes of admin and communications will be critical
  • Keep up to date with ER and wellbeing topics to spot opportunities for improvement
  • Develop health & wellbeing initiatives, including occupational health and return-to-work strategies
  • Review and evolve HR policies across the group to keep us compliant, consistent and compassionate
  • Interpret employee data to uncover trends and drive smarter decisions to support key HR projects and continuous improvement
  • Stay ahead of employment law and HR best practices to keep us future-ready and ensure Group-wide compliance by communicating updates
About You
  • We’re looking for a passionate and motivated HR professional with CIPD Level 5 or above
  • You will have grit, determination and influencing skills to get outcomes across the line
  • Thrive in a face-to-face environment with strong communication; this role requires on-site availability five days a week
  • Proven HR experience, especially in casework, change management, and employee relations with strong coaching and mentoring skills
  • Commercial awareness, a proactive mindset and a collaborative spirit
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels with empathy and diplomacy
  • Experience with disciplinaries, grievances, and performance improvement plans; ability to review and audit cases for best practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to interpret People data to identify trends and contribute to retention and engagement strategies
