Exciting new role in !! HR Advisor – South Bristol


Location: BS4 – Would consider 1 day working from home


Salary: £28,000 – £34,500 per annum


Hours: 37.5 per week (flexibility to consider 4 days per week)

Are you an experienced HR professional looking to make a meaningful impact in the education and third sector? Our client, a values-driven college, is seeking a dedicated HR Advisor to join their supportive People team. You’ll work alongside a Head of People, fellow HR Advisor, and an HR Administrator, delivering a high-quality, proactive HR service across the organisation.



Role Purpose

To provide professional and comprehensive HR advice, support, and administration across the full employee lifecycle. This includes employee relations, recruitment, payroll, safeguarding, and policy development—ensuring all activity aligns with college policies and values.



Key Responsibilities


  • Act as the first point of contact for a designated manager cluster, offering guidance across all HR matters.

  • Manage a caseload of employee relations issues (e.g. absence, performance, conduct), supporting managers to resolve cases effectively and in line with policy.

  • Coach managers on best practice and employment law, fostering confident and compliant people management.

  • Oversee recruitment processes with support from the HR Coordinator, including drafting job documents, attending interviews, and managing pre-employment checks.

  • Ensure safeguarding checks are completed and recorded for all staff and contractors.

  • Lead onboarding engagement from offer to start date, ensuring a seamless new starter experience.

  • Support policy drafting and updates, maintaining version control and documentation standards.

  • Administer HR processes including performance reviews, absence management, and staff exits.

  • Maintain accurate HR systems and records in line with GDPR.

  • Contribute to payroll preparation and resolve pay queries.

  • Deliver HR workshops and training sessions for managers.

  • Lead or support on HR projects as required.



About You


  • CIPD Level 5 (or working towards) or equivalent experience.

  • Strong generalist HR experience, including employee relations casework and recruitment.

  • Confident using HR systems and Microsoft Office.

  • Knowledge of employment law and HR best practice.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage sensitive situations professionally.

  • Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities.
