Job description

Process Safety / HSE Manager – Manchester, Permanent – Salary competitive plus benefits.

Key Responsibilities

• Process Safety Leadership: Develop and own the Process Safety Management System (PSMS) aligned with UK law and standards (ISO 45001, ISO 14001); Lead HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA studies; define/verify Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF/SIL); Drive compliance with DSEAR and implement robust safety measures.
• Health & Safety Leadership: Ensure all site activities are conducted safely, maintaining zero TIRO; own site risk assessments, SOPs; integrate with training/competence matrices; Govern Permit-to-Work and LOTO systems; lead accident investigations using root cause analysis and implement corrective actions; manage contractor control and CDM 2015 duties for projects.
• Engineering Management: Oversee the engineering team, fostering innovation and continuous improvement; ensure preventative maintenance and mandatory checks for equipment reliability; utilise CMMS for planned maintenance and KPI reporting.

About You

• NEBOSH Diploma (or NVQ Level 6) and IOSH/BOHS membership (Grad IOSH/CMIOSH)
• Chartered status or working towards it and an engineering degree (desirable)
• Proven leadership in HSE and process safety within a regulated or high‑hazard environment
• Strong knowledge of DSEAR, process safety, and engineering best practices
• Competence in HAZOP/LOPA, ATEX zoning, and permit‑to‑work systems
• Incident investigation expertise and evidence of delivering risk‑reducing improvements
