A local government authority in London is seeking a Housing and Litigation Lawyer. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload in housing litigation, provide high-quality legal advice, and ensure compliance with relevant laws. This role offers a competitive salary, hybrid working conditions, and a generous benefits package including a welcome bonus and substantial annual leave.
Housing and Litigation Lawyer
PO3 to PO5 : £52,925 - £62,495 depending on experience pa (inclusive of £5000 Market Supplement)
In addition to the salary, we offer legally qualified new starters a £5,000 welcome bonus which is payable 50% after 6 months and 50% after 12 months in the role.

This is a varied role, and the successful candidates will be expected to be part of a busy team carrying a challenging caseload. The successful candidate will be highly organised, proactive, flexible, able to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines. They will maintain quality assurance and performance standards in the service provided by their team to the Council.
There are several posts available as the team is expanding and a successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of contested housing litigation and related legal advice, ensuring that the Council receives cost‑effective high‑quality advice and representation.
Housing Lawyer
The post covers claims brought under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985, Environmental Health Act 1990, Defective Premises Act 1972, together with contractual claims from tenants and leaseholders including breach applications. Additionally, the successful candidate may be asked to act in contested possession proceedings including anti-social behaviour and injunctions, homelessness and judicial review.
The successful candidate will have a thorough up to date knowledge of housing and local government law. You will be experienced in representation in court proceedings and instructing counsel and have a good working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules. You will also have substantial experience in drafting legal documents and legal correspondence and giving specialist legal advice.
