The Role

With a reputation for excellence, innovation and collaboration, we are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist to join our dedicated healthcare team at HMP Shotts. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a unique and challenging environment, delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care to a diverse patient population. The post holder will provide leadership around medicines management and governance within the prison service range as well as representing the Health Board at national groups, and strategic NHSL meetings.

Key Responsibilities include providing a clinical pharmacy service within the prison setting to ensure safe, effective, and person-centred care. The post holder will also work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to optimise medicines management & support prescribing, medication reviews, and adherence to NHSL and national guidelines. Health improvement initiatives and patient education will also be a key role for this post.

This is a part time post for 15 hours per week on a Fixed Term or Secondment for basis 24 months (job share will be considered).

What we’ll need you to bring

• Masters degree in Pharmacy


• Registered to practice with the General Pharmaceutical Council

• Ability to monitor patient therapeutic regimens to ensure effectiveness and reduce toxicity.


• Previous experience in delivering training and education at post-graduate level.


• Demonstrable use of clinical audit to improve practice.


• Demonstrate advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement.


• Excellent numeracy, verbal and written communication skills


• Ability to work to deadlines and manage resources


• Participation in weekend and public holiday working. This does not apply to primary care roles


• Participation in pharmacy emergency duty service (if appropriate). This does not apply to primary care roles


• Post graduate degree / diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or Management

It would be great if you also have

• Experience in primary care, mental health, or substance misuse services.


• Previous experience in a prison or similar setting (however training will be provided if required)
