Are you a confident and knowledgeable Science HLTA looking for a long-term opportunity in a supportive secondary school environment?

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Science Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a client school in Newham, supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4 and playing a vital role in the delivery of engaging science lessons.

The role:

As a Science HLTA, you will support teaching and learning within the science department, delivering pre‑planned lessons and working closely with teaching staff to ensure continuity and high standards of education.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver pre‑planned science lessons to individuals, small groups, and whole classes in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Support teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4 in line with the national curriculum.
  • Support students with a range of abilities, including those with SEND.
  • Work closely with science teaching staff to support curriculum delivery, assessment, and lesson planning.
  • Assist with classroom and behaviour management in line with the school’s policies and expectations.
  • Provide targeted academic support to raise attainment and close learning gaps.
  • Support practical science lessons, including laboratory organisation, resources, and health and safety procedures.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and well‑managed learning environment.

Requirements:

  • Holds HLTA status (or equivalent experience).
  • A good standard of education, including GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths, and Science.
  • Experience supporting learning in a secondary school science setting.
  • Confidence in delivering lessons and managing classroom behaviour effectively.
  • Organised, flexible, and able to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A positive attitude and a genuine commitment to supporting young people.
