Job summary

A recruitment agency is looking for an experienced HGV Workshop Technician in Plymouth to provide maintenance and repair services for HGVs and light vehicles. The ideal candidate will have a City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and be capable of working independently. Responsibilities include conducting safety inspections, diagnosing faults, and performing welding and repairs. A full UK Driving Licence (Category C) is required, or a willingness to obtain it within the first year.

  • Knowledge of workshop health & safety and vehicle electrical systems.
  • Ability to work independently and use fleet management software.

Job Description

Our client, based in the South Yorkshire area, is seeking an experienced HGV Workshop Technician to join their team.

You’ll provide high quality maintenance, inspection, repair, and testing services for their fleet and external customers, covering a diverse range of HGVs and light vehicles.

The role includes preparing and presenting vehicles for MOTs, carrying out safety inspections to DVSA standards, diagnosing faults in hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, and undertaking welding, fabrication, and body repairs. You’ll also attend breakdowns and accident-damaged vehicles to carry out repairs or decommissioning as required.

About You
  • Experienced in HGV and light commercial inspection, maintenance, and repair (municipal vehicle experience desirable)
  • Knowledge of workshop health & safety, pneumatics, hydraulics, and 12 / 24v electrical systems
  • Able to work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records using fleet management software
Qualifications & Requirements
  • City & Guilds or IMI Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, Motor Vehicle Engineering, or equivalent
  • Full UK Driving Licence with Category C, or willingness to obtain within the first year
