HGV Technician vacancy in Beenham, near Reading (255CM)

Are you a former military vehicle mechanic, technician, or engineer looking to use your heavy vehicle maintenance skills in a civilian career? Our client is looking for a hands‑on, reliable HGV Technician to join their team and keep their HGV fleet safe, efficient, and road‑ready in Beenham (near Reading).

Your background in the Army, RAF, or Royal Navy—particularly REME and GTM—means you already understand the importance of maintenance standards, safety, and teamwork, and that’s exactly what’s valued for this role.

Your Role

You will join the team to deliver a high‑quality, reliable, and cost‑effective vehicle maintenance service. You’ll inspect, repair, and perform MOTs on a diverse fleet of vehicles, ensuring all work meets manufacturer standards and complies with current legislation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough HGV inspections, repairs, and warranty work to ensure vehicles are road‑ready, MOT‑compliant, and meet supplier and Ministry standards.
  • Diagnose faults and complete repairs on hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Complete service reports, paperwork, and electronic job sheets in line with company procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment, following all health & safety regulations and reporting incidents or near‑misses.
  • Undertake required training to maintain up‑to‑date technical and compliance knowledge.
  • Mentor and support apprentice technicians.
  • Provide roadside assistance for breakdowns as required.
  • Offer flexibility to support operations at other depots when needed.
  • Carry out additional duties or projects as directed by your manager or supervisor.
Required Qualifications
  • City & Guilds Parts 1, 2 & 3, NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in HGV maintenance preferred, or 10+ years’ relevant hands‑on experience.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrics, with excellent mechanical and technical skills.
  • Good knowledge of current health & safety regulations.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Flexibility to cover other sites when required.
  • Must meet the role’s weight limit requirement (140kg maximum) for working at height in safety equipment.
Desired Qualifications
  • HGV licence (Class 2 minimum) and digital tachograph card desirable.
  • Valid Driver CPC and 35 hours’ CPC training desirable.

Working Hours
