Job description
Overview

An exciting opportunity is available for a full-time Band 3 Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly, enthusiastic and committed multidisciplinary team. The post is a permanent position and covers Knowsley providing Integrated Sexual Health and Contraception services under “axess”. The successful applicant will be based at Knowsley Sexual Health Service, Huyton, with travel to peripheral sites as required. Flexibility is needed to work a range of early and evening shifts.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver patient care demonstrating professionalism, working within your competency and maintaining excellent communication skills.
  • Provide venepuncture, assist with procedures, record baseline observations, and manage stock replenishment.
  • Support STI screening for asymptomatic patients with onward referral when necessary.
  • Perform administrative duties and maintain computer literacy as essential components of the role.
  • Develop an autonomous role within the team once skilled and competent.
  • Be flexible to cover various shifts and locations; a minimum of two late shifts per week is expected.
Qualifications
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent, a national care certificate, or willingness to undertake this.
  • Extensive IT skills, quick learner, and adaptability to a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication skills and venepuncture experience are essential.
  • Previous experience in a sexual health/contraception service is desirable but not essential.
About the Team and Environment

You will be supported by an established team including HCA staff, assistant practitioners, band 6, 7 and 8a specialist nurses, specialist doctors and consultants. The Trust is part of the NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group, with sites including Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, and Royal Liverpool University Hospital. The group was formed on 1 November 2024.
