Job summary

Job description

The role of the Health Care Assistant is to assist the qualified nurse to:

  • Provide direct care and support to the patient as delegated by the qualified nurse.
  • Maintain a clean safe environment for patients and relatives.
  • Assist with clerical and housekeeping duties.
  • Contribute to maintaining the unit’s philosophy of care.
  • Be able to work in a learning environment, providing a high standard of nursing care and support to patients.
  • Work flexibly according to the needs of the department including clinical areas across site where required.
Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time (37.5hrs) HCA3 at Epsom and St Helier Ophthalmology Outpatients department.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must have previous HCA experience, preferably within ophthalmology and/or outpatients setting and have extended skills to include BP, BM, phlebotomy. You must be willing to further develop your skills and knowledge on a variety of ophthalmic related tasks and activities.

Applicants will be required to Monday to Friday 9‑5 and to be able to work across site as necessary.

The role demands willingness to expand clinical knowledge and skills and to work in a variety of clinics. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, and the ability to work under pressure. Applicants must be motivated, flexible, able to work as part of a team, and have excellent interpersonal skills. Applicants will need to be able to work flexibly around the needs of the service.
