Overview

iCaSH Cambridgeshire, Wisbech - Healthcare Assistant 22.5hrs per week (0.6wte).

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, committed and experienced Healthcare Assistant to provide high quality services to the community who use the Integrated Contraception and Sexual Health (iCaSH) services across Cambridgeshire. You will be based at our site in Wisbech, which includes a clinic in Ely.

You will be part of a dynamic team who ensure the efficient and effective use of available resources, in meeting the contraception, sexual health and HIV care needs of people in Cambridgeshire.

Responsibilities
  • Welcome patients and obtain relevant personal and clinical details, treating all information as confidential.
  • Following training and sign-off as competent, act as a chaperone and assist nurses/doctors to undertake intimate examinations/procedures and/or sexual health screening on patients.
  • Provide information to patients attending the department and those diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection/HIV or requiring contraception advice, risk reduction advice and condom demonstration.
  • Where local services require and following training and sign-off, provide a service for asymptomatic patients requesting a routine sexual health screen.
  • Provide a phlebotomy service for patients attending the services (following training).
  • Undertake non-clinical duties in support of the admin team, including call taking and reception cover, 0300 number answering, registering patients and booking, and general patient/non-patient administration.
  • Read and interpret microscopy slides as directed by clinicians and document and communicate findings, if required by the clinical service.
  • Be non-judgemental to all client groups regardless of age/ethnicity/religion.
  • Administer prescribed vaccines in accordance with service guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures, if required by the clinical service.
  • Hold the Care Certificate and deliver associated standards of care or undertake the training at the earliest opportunity upon recruitment.
  • Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to promote efficient patient care; signpost clients to other services where appropriate; and liaise with other services as necessary for the co-ordination of patient care.
  • Participate in outreach and support health promotion events when requested.
  • Participate in annual appraisal, one-to-ones and clinical supervision throughout the year.
  • Support updating clinic noticeboards and assist in stock control and ordering as required.
  • Direct and escort patients and visitors around the clinic and ensure safe-keeping of patient property.
  • Prepare clinic rooms prior to sessions and undertake tidying and general housekeeping duties within the clinics.
  • Register and issue C-card and condoms following training.
  • Attend and complete mandatory training in accordance with policy; participate in clinical and other audits as required; and participate in relevant emergency preparedness processes for the team.
  • Direct and supervise students from a variety of disciplines within the scope of the role.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Care Certificate qualification or willingness to undertake training.
  • Trained to provide phlebotomy and chaperone duties, or demonstrate willingness to undertake training.
  • Flexible to work across all parts of the service where appropriate and able to meet the travel requirements of the Trust.
  • Experience front of house with the ability to develop a warm and welcoming rapport with people who use the services.
  • Understanding of the sensitivity and confidentiality involved in contraception, sexual health and HIV services.
  • Commitment to non-judgemental care for all client groups.
Additional Information
  • The service operates 9am to 5pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and two Fridays per month at the Ely service.
