Job Summary

NEMS have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our team! The role involves performing the first assessment for walk‑in patients and providing clinical support to the multidisciplinary team. The Health Assistant will work under clinician supervision, complete an extended competency requirement, and assist in maintaining a safe and efficient service.

Responsibilities
  • Work efficiently and professionally with the multidisciplinary team to provide a safe, high‑standard service to all service users and their carers.
  • Perform and record baseline observations after appropriate training: temperature, pulse, respiration, blood oxygen saturation, blood pressure, weight, urinalysis, blood glucose, peak flow, ECG recording, and venepuncture.
  • Act as the first point of contact with patients and/or their carers, maintaining oversight of the waiting room.
  • Collaborate with clinicians to prioritise patients in the waiting room, utilising recommended early warning scores such as PEWS or NEWS2.
  • Work under minimal supervision while recognising when to elevate concerns to a registered healthcare professional.
  • Recognise changes in patient observations or condition and report them promptly to the nurse in charge or appropriate professional.
  • Assist with patient treatment, including dressings, providing a chaperone, and supporting during medical emergencies.
  • Provide feedback, report, and, where necessary, safeguard patients’ condition and welfare to the appropriate clinician.

Salary: £14.15 to £14.70 per hour plus unsocial enhancements.

Contract: Permanent.
