Overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the Substance Misuse team at HMP Altcourse, a busy Category B male prison in Fazakerley, Liverpool. This is a crucial role within the Substance Misuse (SMS) team, making a real difference to patients and delivering outstanding care. This role offers excellent developmental opportunities and is a great environment to build on your experience and gain new skills. This role sits within our Substance Misuse Service; Substance Misuse experience isn’t essential—we can train this. It is important to us that you have an interest in Substance Misuse and are keen to learn in this area.

Hours: This is a part-time role, 20 hours per week, working 2 x 9.5 hour shifts per week, with 1 in 3 weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Be involved in the implementation of clinical care packages, phlebotomy and assessment, treatment and the evaluation of patients’ care, including venepuncture and tissue viability.
  • Support the SMS Nursing team in delivering medication and care to substance misuse patients.
  • Primarily work within the clinical substance misuse team, with the potential to carry out duties in the primary care team.
  • Support the registered nurse with patients in accordance with instructions and training, promoting safe patient care and developing/applying new skills to maintain and enhance clinical service delivery.

Qualifications
  • Hold a NVQ Level 2/3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or equivalent.
  • Ideally have experience within a Substance Misuse role, and have knowledge of Mental Health.
  • Have experience in a care setting previously — ideally from a hospital or prison setting.
  • Have clinical experience — venepuncture, tissue viability, etc.
  • Have a non-judgemental and compassionate approach.

Salary and Benefits
