Job description

As a Healthcare Assistant at The Meadows, you will provide person‑centred care to older adults in an acute setting, ensuring a high quality, caring service that supports the care pathway of patients admitted onto the wards.

Responsibilities
  • Observe, report and record changes in clients' physical, mental health and behaviour.
  • Provide care as planned in multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Work in accordance with the principles of the Mental Health Act (MHA).
  • Give and receive clear messages by telephone and/or personal contact.
  • Assist with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, diet and fluid intake, clothing and laundry, maintenance of personal environment, elimination, rest and sleep, and activity.
  • Offer social activities, emotional support and stability while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Contribute to the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
  • Build and maintain professional supportive relationships with all members of staff, other professionals and agencies to enhance recovery.
  • Provide escort duties to clients under the direction of the nurse in charge.
  • Co‑facilitate therapeutic and social engagement group work when required.
  • Carry out prescribed physical observations (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations, blood sugars, urinalysis, weight and height) and report results to the nurse in charge.
Qualifications & Skills

Good communication skills, a flexible approach, enthusiasm to work within a team, participation in staff meetings and training, and a commitment to keeping skills and knowledge up to date.

Location & Overview

The Meadows is a 24/7 service with 24 beds for patients over 65, based on the former West Park Hospital site in Epsom, Surrey. The unit provides holistic assessment and treatment for older adults with dementia or organic mental ill health.
