Job description

Priory Hospital Kemple View is looking to recruit a Healthcare Assistant to join their team. This is a full-time position at 37.5 hours per week.

This role includes a mixture of day and night shifts - working 3-4 months of night shifts per year. Shift times will be Day Shift 7:40 am - 8:00 pm / Night shift 7:40 pm - 8:00 am. Weekend & bank holiday work is included. Shift pattern is a rolling rota: Week 1 – Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday; Week 2 – Wednesday, Thursday. Pay is £12.90 per hour.

Located in Blackburn, Lancashire, Priory Hospital Kemple View is a 90‑beded hospital offering rehabilitation, recovery and secure services for adult males. We support people with mental health conditions and/or personality disorders under the least restrictive practice principles, ensuring patients enjoy a good quality of life.

What you’ll be doing
  • Assist qualified staff with assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients.
  • Support patients with in‑house activities and hobbies.
  • Observe and monitor patients’ wellbeing, ensuring any unusual physical, mental or emotional occurrences are promptly referred to senior staff/the primary nurse and documented appropriately.
  • Provide specific interventions with patients as delegated by a Registered Nurse, following training and competency attainment. Such interventions include observation and engagement with patients, escorting patients on leave, and being involved in de‑escalation and management of violence and aggression.
  • Contribute to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in regular ward meetings and attend other meetings as requested.
  • Assist in the maintenance of stock levels, including pharmaceutical products.
  • Assist in maintaining ward cleanliness and tidiness and adhere to infection control policy and procedures at all times.
  • Develop and maintain a good professional relationship with patients, colleagues and visitors, responding promptly and courteously to requests and enquiries.
  • Help promote and maintain an environment conducive to meeting the needs of patients, relatives and carers.
  • Ensure service users are receiving a quality service that is value for money.
  • Receive and convey information from telephone or personal enquiries in a courteous manner and ensure all persons visiting the ward are greeted and assisted in a welcoming and supportive manner.
