Job description
Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Manager to join our team. This is a crucial role responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of health and safety, for our pupils, staff, and visitors. This position is part-time (0.5FTE) with exact working days/hours to be discussed and agreed with the successful applicant.

Responsibilities
  • Strategy & Policy, specifically developing implementing and reviewing the College’s Health & Safety Policy, ensuring they are fit for purpose and compliant with all statutory requirements, advising the Senior Leadership Team and Governors on all Health & Safety matters, and promoting a positive health and safety culture across the College;
  • Risk Management, specifically maintaining and updating a robust and comprehensive risk assessment register, conducting regular health and safety audits and inspections, identifying hazards and ensuring corrective actions are taken, ensuring all external contractors adhere to appropriate Health & Safety requirements, managing the College’s fire safety arrangements, and working with the leadership team to ensure an adequate and effective emergency response plan is in place;
  • Compliance & Reporting, specifically ensuring all relevant Health & Safety legislation, regulations and approved codes of practices are adhered to, oversee the process of reporting accidents, incidents and near misses, including the investigation and implementation of corrective actions, liaising with external bodies, such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), local authority, and emergency services, and oversee quality assurance audits and develop associated action plans to address areas for improvement; and
  • Training & Development, specifically identifying health and safety training needs for all staff members, implementing a training schedule, promoting health and safety awareness in the College and overseeing first aid provision.
Qualifications and Requirements

The successful candidate will be a hands-on professional who can develop, implement, and maintain robust health and safety policies and procedures across the College. They should have a NEBOSH general certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or IOSH Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health (or equivalent), proven experience in a dedicated Health & Safety role, have excellent communication skills with excellent attention to detail and a proactive, problem-solving approach.
