Job description

Surrey & Borders NHS Foundation Trusts Adult Neurodevelopmental Service is looking for a Nursing candidate with demonstrable experience and expertise in reviewing the ADHD medications of adults, using a holistic, evidence based approach. This will include ADHD-related nursing skills; crisis intervention, medication management, epilepsy care, and mental health comorbidities

Days: Monday to Sunday

Time: 8 AM to 7 PM

Main duties of the job
  • To undertake ADHD annual reviews of a designated group of adult patients for Surrey and Borders NHS Foundation Trusts Adult Neurodevelopmental Service, include monitoring of physical health observations in line with NICE guidance.
  • To ensure that the assessed/reviewed needs (including risk assessments and safeguarding issues) of people with ADHD are recorded on the Trusts electronic recording system (Systm1) and communicated to an identified care practitioner, professional lead or manager, as appropriate.
  • To advocate for and represent the service in professional and divisional contexts.
  • To contribute to the development and implementation of policies, protocols, and care pathways.
  • To support initiatives that address the needs of people with protected characteristics within local services and future developments.
  • To actively participate in the induction, education, and supervision of students and junior staff.
  • To research, audit, and benchmark practice against national standards, ensuring services remain up to date with best practice.
  • To develop, implement, and monitor interventions linked to government initiatives (e.g. Transforming Care, LD Mortality Review).

Job responsibilities

Leadership To positively contribute to divisional developments in relation to nursing practice.

Clinical To demonstrate expertise in ADHD-related nursing skills including crisis intervention, medication management, epilepsy care, and mental health comorbidities. To involve people in developing their own care plans, respecting dignity, choice, and individual needs (racial, cultural, sexual, and religious). To carry out physical health checks in line with SaBP assessment templates and NICE guidance. To undertake risk assessments, formulate risk management plans and report Safeguarding issues both within the trusts electronic recording system (Systm1) and communicated to an identified care practitioner, professional lead or manager, as appropriate. To work collaboratively with acute, primary care, and other healthcare services. To build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, external agencies, service users, and families.

Professional To remain legally and professionally accountable, adhering to the NMC Code of Conduct and Trust policies. To act in line with the Mental Health Act (1983), Mental Capacity Act (2005), and Safeguarding responsibilities. To act as a practice assessor/teacher, supporting education and training. To participate in audits, research, and quality assurance activities to ensure continuous improvement. To maintain current knowledge of research, best practice, and policy within learning disabilities and ADHD.
