Job Description
  • Assist GPs and the nursing team in delivering a safe and high‑quality primary care service.
  • Undertake delegated tasks under direct or indirect supervision.
  • Work within clear parameters and accountability after appropriate training and assessment.
Responsibilities
  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Work under the supervision of a registered practitioner.
  • Follow agreed protocols and procedures.
  • Solve routine problems within scope of role, escalating when required.
  • Accept delegated responsibility after necessary training.
  • Attend practice and group meetings.
  • Complete statutory and mandatory training.
  • Take responsibility for own development and identify gaps in knowledge and skills.
  • Inform line manager/registered nurse or practice manager if unable to perform duties competently.
  • Support development of other staff, including pre‑registration nurses.
  • Carry out infection control and prevention measures.
  • Assist with ordering of clinical stock/supplies.
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining medical equipment/devices.
  • Record procedures such as phlebotomy, specimen preparation, NHS health checks, vitals, urinalysis, health promotion, diabetic foot checks, spirometry, basic hypertension, ear irrigation, and vaccine administration (with legal authority).
  • Assist clinicians with minor surgical procedures.
  • Act as chaperone.
  • Assist in basic wound care management under supervision.
  • Remove wound closure materials.
  • Communicate clearly with patients, carers, and relatives.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and outside agencies.
  • Maintain awareness of data protection and confidentiality.
  • Support and maintain health & safety and infection control policies.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 or QCF Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support or equivalent (desirable).

Essential Knowledge:

  • Up‑to‑date knowledge and skills in clinical roles.
  • Understanding of infection prevention and control measures.
  • Understanding of effective team working.

Essential Skills:

  • Good organisational skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Essential Additional:

  • Enhanced DBS certification.
  • Legal right to work in the UK.
  • Hep B/MMR – vaccinated or willing to be vaccinated.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to high‑quality service delivery.

Experience:

  • Experience of infection prevention and control measures in clinical practice.
  • Phlebotomy experience.
  • Experience with EMIS/SystmOne (desirable).
  • Experience in primary care (desirable).
