What’s the role all about?

As a Health and Safety Advisor, you’ll play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Council Plan by providing expert advice and guidance on health and safety matters. You’ll help shape and implement our health and safety strategy, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice across all services.

You’ll be part of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Team, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to maintain a safe and compliant environment.

Responsibilities
  • Be at the heart of ensuring safe working environments across the Council, schools, and partner organisations
  • Provide expert advice and support risk assessments
  • Investigate incidents and recommend control measures
  • Deliver training sessions, briefings, and toolbox talks
  • Audit facilities for compliance
  • Contribute to shaping health and safety policies and procedures
  • Represent the Council in stakeholder forums and conduct on-site inspections with essential equipment
  • Make a tangible difference in health and safety outcomes
Who are we looking for?
  • A confident and capable health and safety professional who brings expertise and enthusiasm
  • NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 5 in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent)
  • Ideally a member of IOSH—TechIOSH, GradIOSH or CMIOSH
  • Strong grasp of health and safety legislation, codes of practice, and risk management
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills
  • Ability to deliver technical advice with clarity and develop innovative solutions
  • Flexibility to work independently or as part of a team
