Head of Outdoor Activities – new post, reporting to the Deputy Head (Co-curriculum and Outreach).

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Outdoor Activities (OA) department and meet weekly with the Deputy Head to align on co-curricular priorities.
  • Manage the department's facilities and resources, including the Kempson Centre (two offices, two classrooms, indoor climbing wall, stores) and the OA staff complement (OA instructor, OA storesperson shared with the CCF, part-time staff, teaching staff, and external instructors).
  • Coordinate a wide OA program across all year groups: Year 9 Shell OA week; Year 10 Wednesday OA term; Sunday activities; involvement in Year 12 Devizes to Westminster kayak race; and Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award participation for around 50 pupils.
  • Plan and oversee overseas trips and expeditions (e.g., training, practice, assessment for DofE Gold; past examples include dog-sledding in Sweden, K2 basecamp expedition in Pakistan, e-biking in Morocco, and mountain expeditions in Sweden and Peru).
  • Collaborate with the College’s CCF and external instructors to deliver a high-quality program while maintaining safety and standards.
  • Support and develop a culture of wide pupil participation in OA across all years, in line with a full boarding school environment.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Flexibility in working hours and duties in line with organisational needs of a full boarding school.
  • Experience in leading a department and coordinating with multiple stakeholders, including staff, instructors, and external partners (as described in the role).
  • Proficiency in organising and delivering a diverse program of outdoor activities and expeditions.
