Confidential Opportunity – UK‑Based, Multi‑Site Organisation

We are working on behalf of a long‑established, family‑owned UK organisation to appoint a Head of HR for a senior, strategically influential role.

Our client operates a national, multi‑site business alongside Head Office and operational functions, employing colleagues across a wide range of roles. They are a values‑led organisation with a strong heritage and a clear focus on future growth.

The Role

This is a senior leadership role with clear ownership of the people agenda for the organisation’s customer‑facing and home‑focused divisions.

Reporting into a senior executive leader, the Head of HR will act as a trusted adviser to the leadership team, ensuring people strategy is aligned with commercial priorities. The role carries genuine accountability for translating business objectives into practical, effective people outcomes, rather than operating purely in an advisory capacity.

The successful candidate will also line manage an HR Business Partner responsible for operational functions, ensuring a joined‑up but appropriately tailored HR approach across the wider organisation.

This opportunity will suit someone who enjoys being close to the business, understands the realities of complex, multi‑site environments, and is comfortable owning outcomes in a fast‑moving organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and own the people strategy for customer‑facing and home‑focused divisions, aligned to growth and performance objectives
  • Act as a trusted adviser and coach to senior leaders and executive stakeholders
  • Build leadership capability across a large, geographically dispersed estate
  • Take overall accountability for employee relations strategy, setting tone and approach and managing the most complex cases personally
  • Lead engagement, culture and values initiatives, ensuring they are embedded rather than simply communicated
  • Use insight and data, including engagement feedback, to identify priorities and drive measurable improvement
  • Set and champion a clear internal communications approach
  • Balance colleague experience with commercial outcomes, ensuring decisions are pragmatic, fair and performance‑focused
  • Line manage the HR Business Partner responsible for operational functions, ensuring alignment with the wider people strategy
  • Ensure HR is positioned as a proactive, credible and commercially focused function. The role is primarily Head Office‑based, with regular travel to sites across the UK. Visible leadership and a strong understanding of operational realities are critical to success.
Candidate Profile
  • Has significant experience in a Head of HR or Senior HR Business Partner role within a complex, multi‑site organisation
  • Is confident operating at senior leadership level and influencing business‑critical decisions
  • Brings a strong commercial mindset and understands how people strategy supports performance
  • Is comfortable taking ownership and accountability for outcomes
  • Has a strong track record in shaping culture, engagement and leadership capability
  • Is credible, pragmatic and calm under pressure
  • Is values‑led and motivated by working in a family‑owned, purpose‑driven environment
  • CIPD qualification LEVEL 7 (or equivalent experience) and strong UK employment law knowledge are essential.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • A genuinely strategic role with clear ownership and influence
  • The opportunity to shape the people agenda across a large, national workforce
  • Regular access to senior decision‑makers and the ability to drive meaningful change
  • A values‑led organisation where people are central to long‑term success
  • The opportunity to build on an established Best Companies accreditation
