What is the role?

The Head of Engineering will lead a high‑performing engineering team responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of our core multi‑tenant SaaS platform. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will shape the technical roadmap, foster a culture of agility and reliability, and ensure our platform delivers performance, security, and compliance for our customers who operate in regulated environments. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you'll balance strategic oversight with tactical execution to support growth and customer success.

Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership & Development: Build, mentor, and scale a diverse engineering team of backend, frontend, DevOps, and QA engineers, embedding testing practices, fostering collaboration, continuous learning, and high retention through performance management and career growth. Foster a culture of accountability aspiring to customer expectations.
  • Technical Strategy & Roadmap: Contribute to engineering vision for our multi‑tenant architecture, prioritizing scalability, fault tolerance, DR models and tenant isolation to help scale the platform.
  • Platform Innovation: Oversee the full lifecycle of feature development, from ideation to deployment, leveraging modern tech stacks to enhance platform capabilities, such as real‑time data processing and API integrations.
  • Security & Compliance: Champion high grade security practices, including GDPR, ISO 27001, and SOC 2 compliance, ensuring these aspects are supported in our software stack and workflow. Uphold security best practices to protect systems, data, and people.
  • Operational Excellence: Embed core design patterns, CI/CD and observability practices/tools across the team, identifying areas where skill gaps exist and closing them.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner with product, design, sales and customer success teams to align engineering efforts within wider goals, translating customer feedback into actionable platform improvements and taking ownership of customer problems.
  • Metrics & Reporting: Work with delivery community to establish KPIs for engineering velocity, quality and impact; report on progress to executive leadership and stakeholders.

Who is best suited to this role?
Technical Skills
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science / Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., Engineering Manager or equivalent) at a SaaS or Fintech company.
  • Proven track record building and scaling multi‑tenant platforms, with deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud‑native architectures and high‑availability design.
  • Strong understanding of security practices in the software development lifecycle (SDLC), with experience of SAST and DAST.
  • Experience leading cross‑functional teams in agile environments, with tools such as GitLab, Jira, Terraform and Azure DevOps.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Deep knowledge and hands‑on experience with the Azure stack working with languages/platforms such as C# .NET and Python, PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, SQL Server, Redis; and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes, Docker and Helm.
  • Excellent understanding of software architectures; when and where to deploy them.
  • Knowledge of encryption and tokenisation systems.
  • Prior success in growing engineering teams during growth phases preferred.
  • Familiarity with machine learning use cases and event‑driven architectures (e.g., Azure ServiceBus and Kafka).
  • Experience working in agile development environments and leading cross‑functional teams.
  • Contributions to open‑source projects or speaking at tech conferences would be of interest.
