Location: 5th Floor, 9A Devonshire Square, London, EC2M 4YN
Start date: Immediate
Role type: Permanent, full-time, hybrid

The Opportunity:

Lead the strategic vision, build, and ongoing evolution of Carbon Underwriting’s corporate infrastructure as a key member of the technology leadership team. This is a pivotal role for a hands on individual ready to take ownership and shape the technology backbone of a growing Lloyds syndicate.

This role reports directly into the CTO and would suit an ambitious individual, capable of working autonomously, seeking a varied and visible role with responsibility for the corporate infrastructure underpinning Carbon.

The Role:
Strategic Leadership:

Define and execute the corporate infrastructure strategy, ensuring alignment with Carbon’s business objectives and growth ambitions. Act as a trusted advisor to the executive team on all matters of technology infrastructure, resilience, and operational risk.

Technology Vision & Execution:

Architect and oversee the delivery of robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure solutions across predominantly cloud environments with a limited amount of on-prem office hardware. Drive adoption of automation, SRE, and architecture best practices to enable operational excellence and business agility.

Vendor & Partner Management:

Own and optimise relationships with MSPs, cloud providers, and technology partners. Negotiate strategic agreements, maximise value from partnerships, and ensure service excellence.

Cybersecurity & Compliance:

Lead the development and implementation of security, compliance, and risk management frameworks. Drive continuous improvement in security posture (e.g., Microsoft Security Score), and ensure readiness for audits and regulatory reviews.

Business Continuity & Resilience:

Oversee disaster recovery (DR) strategy and annual testing. Ensure business continuity plans are robust, tested, and aligned with business needs.

Stakeholder Engagement:

Represent the corporate technology function in exec meetings, audits, and cross-functional leadership forums. Provide clear, data-driven updates on infrastructure performance, risk, and strategic initiatives.

Operational Excellence:

Drive efficiency and scalability through automation, process optimisation, and proactive monitoring. Leverage data and analytics to inform decision-making and deliver measurable business value.

Innovation & Change Management:

Stay ahead of industry trends, evaluate emerging technologies, and lead change initiatives to maintain Carbon’s competitive edge.

Skills/Experience:
  • Proven experience in a hands on leadership role within FinTech, banking, insurance, or a similarly regulated, high-growth environment.
  • Deep expertise in O365 configuration and setup.
  • Expertise in cloud technologies, automation, and security. We span Azure and GCP, though this role is largely Azure (O365) focused.
  • Strong vendor management and negotiation skills.
  • Track record of delivering large-scale infrastructure projects and driving operational transformation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including c-suite level engagement.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, O365/Azure/GCP, ITIL) are highly desirable.
  • Experience managing firewalls and switches.
  • STEM degree or equivalent experience.
