Job description
Head of Commercial Management West London 12-Month Contract Up to £800 per day (DOE)

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Head of Commercial Management to lead on a prestigious rail project in West London.

Our client is a well-established company delivering mechanical and electrical engineering expertise on large-scale infrastructure projects across the UK.

The successful individual will be responsible for all commercial aspects of the rail project, reporting directly to the CEO. You will oversee commercial risk management, ensuring effective governance, reporting processes, and stakeholder engagement.

This is a 12-month contract offering a competitive daily rate of up to £800 per day (DOE).

Role Overview

As part of the project s Commercial team, you will lead the Commercial Management Change process, working collaboratively with technical and delivery teams. You will hold responsibility for ensuring the commercial and financial success of the project by maximiseing value engineering and optioneering opportunities, while achieving full agreement with client stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build, lead, and develop the commercial function into a high-performing team
  • Support the work-winning team in reviewing tender packs and contractual terms, identifying risks and accountabilities
  • Prepare and implement commercial solutions to support successful bids
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate all commercial risks across new and existing contracts
  • Ensure contract compliance and monitor performance
  • Design and implement contract management processes
  • Negotiate contract agreements and resolve non-standard contractual issues
  • Work with Sector Managers to ensure projects exceed commercial targets
  • Produce and present accurate management information and forecasts in collaboration with the finance team
Desired Specification
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Construction Commercial Management
  • Professional membership (RICS, CIOB, or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts (all options)
  • In-depth understanding of construction law and standard forms of contract
  • Previous experience as a Senior Commercial Manager or higher
  • Proven experience in client management and negotiation
  • Background in large MEP projects or within the M&E sector (Tier 1 contractor experience desirable)
  • Sound financial management knowledge
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Project, Word)
  • Strong organisational, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication, and presentation skills
  • Hands-on, flexible approach with the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with claims, dispute resolution, and UK law
  • Ability to motivate, train, and lead teams
