Overview

Head of Automation – Sonia Friedman Productions is seeking applications for a full-time, experienced Head of Automation on the London production of STRANGER THINGS: THE FIRST SHADOW.

Written by Kate Trefry, an original story by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne and Kate Trefry, directed by Stephen Daldry, co-directed by Justin Martin for the Phoenix Theatre and produced by Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and operate the automation equipment for the production.
  • Oversee automation operation and work within a team to ensure the show’s automation requirements remain true to the original concept.
  • Lead a team and liaise with all other departments on the production and associated personnel.
Qualifications / Experience
  • Relevant hands-on professional experience in a management position with the ability to lead a team and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to run a successful department and work calmly and efficiently under pressure; strong organisational and time management qualities.
  • Experience in theatre on a large-scale production is essential.
  • Knowledge of STS would be beneficial.

  • Start Date: October 2025
  • Location: West End, London
  • Contract Type: Fixed term until October 2026, then rolling
  • Salary: Weekly rate as per SOLT/BECTU Agreement
  • Weekly Hours: 6 day working weeks (Tuesday to Sunday); 8 shows per week plus maintenance and understudy calls
