Job description

Are you passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and making a real difference every day? We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our dynamic General Medicine Ward team.

About the Role

As a Band 3 HCA, you will work under the direct supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, who will delegate tasks to you. You will play a vital role in delivering high‑quality nursing care to patients as part of a supportive and skilled team. You will be responsible for your own practice, working within defined limits of competence and the scope of your role. While the Registered Nurse retains accountability for the care delivered, your contribution is essential to ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate care.

What We’re Looking For
  • A genuine desire to join our amazing team and provide outstanding care.
  • Ability to work well within a team and communicate effectively.
  • Hardworking, compassionate, and committed to delivering person‑centred care.
  • Passion for caring for patients within a general medicine setting.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare environment is desirable but not essential – full training will be provided.
What We Offer
  • Comprehensive training and development opportunities.
  • Supportive team environment with strong leadership.
  • Opportunities to progress within the NHS.
  • Access to staff benefits including NHS pension scheme, wellbeing support, and staff discounts.

Previous experience in this role is preferred. However, you will be provided with the clinical training to learn the role. You will be provided with daily supervision by trained staff to perform safely, confidently and competently. Applicants must be able to demonstrate:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Genuine desire to become a part of our amazing team and provide outstanding care for our patients
  • Ability to work well within a team as well as individually
  • Be hardworking, compassionate and have a passion to care for our client group.

The trust will always provide opportunities and support for your future career pathway and development.

Whilst the registered nurse retains accountability for the care delivered by the HCA, the post holder is responsible for their own practice, working within the defined limits of competence and within the scope of the role.

About the Trust

St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC). After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000‑strong workforce.
