Job summary
These are exciting times for nursing in a progressive and rapidly expanding cancer centre. Adult cancer nursing in the Macmillan Cancer Centre comprises four departments: Supportive Care (Red Cell/General Haematology), Chemotherapy Daycare (Oncology and Haematology), Apheresis (peripheral blood stem cell harvest programme and therapeutic plasma exchange), and Ambulatory Care (high dose chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant as day-case care).
We provide highly specialised care for adults with cancer and non-cancer diagnoses, covering a wide range of haematological and oncology diseases. The centre operates 8am–8pm, Monday to Saturday (Ambulatory Care open daily). Staff rotate through the four main adult nursing treatment areas to develop advanced skills and knowledge. The successful applicant will need a minimum of 12 months post-registration experience in an acute healthcare setting. Oncology or haematology experience is desirable but not essential, as we are seeking high-calibre nurses with potential.
This is a fast track development role for the unit. The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to develop as a qualified haemato-oncology nurse by working in the four main areas (one of the largest such units in the UK). The nurse will be supported by the nursing team and clinical practice facilitators to become competent in cancer patient care, including blood and IV administration and the safe administration of chemotherapy. Successful candidates will receive local orientation and ongoing specialty training and support.
We have a highly skilled, diverse team in MCC Daycare, operating in a nurse-led environment. You will develop key working relationships with a multi-professional team, including nursing and medical staff, allied health professionals, and support workers. The team works in a fast-paced, evolving unit with a strong reputation for care and services. Staff wellbeing is supported through social events and access to complementary therapies on the unit.
