We are seeking a proactive, dynamic, and experienced nurse manager to lead our friendly Gynaecology Outpatient Services. The successful candidate will oversee the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across a range of outpatient services and clinics. You will be responsible for operational management, clinical leadership, service development, and staff support. The post holder is expected to lead the team to deliver high quality, effective, individualised nursing care to all patients undergoing Gynaecology outpatient assessments, investigations and procedures, ensuring a safe environment and providing a high level of information and support to patients. You will be expected to demonstrate excellent leadership skills with experience in staff management. You are expected to carry out audits and deputise for the Gynaecology matron in absence.

Main duties of the job

Provideclinical expertise and specialist advice to women accessing gynaecological outpatient services.Ensure the delivery ofevidence-based, holistic nursing care that is current, effective, and aligned with Trust policies.Maintain asafe and supportive environment for patients undergoing assessments, investigations, and procedures.Act as apositive role model, demonstrating professional attitudes and behaviours.

Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the gynaecology outpatient department.Providestrong, clear, and consistent leadership to both qualified and unqualified staff.Promote effectivecommunication within the multidisciplinary team, patients, and relatives.Motivate the team to foster apositive learning environment, ensuring staff are supported and developed within the outpatient competency framework.

Support and participate in all aspects of clinical governance, including audits and quality assurance. Identify and implement initiatives to improve patient care and service delivery. Ensure compliance with current standards and legislation relevant to gynaecology services.Manage staffing, resources, and scheduling to ensure smooth service delivery.Contribute tostrategic planning and development of outpatient services.Liaise with other departments and external partners to ensureintegrated care pathways.

Job responsibilities

Act as a visible clinical leader and role model for nursing and support staff.Ensure safe and effective care delivery in line with national and trust standards.Lead on clinical governance, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives.Support complex decision-making and provide expert advice on gynaecological care.Oversee the day-to-day running of the outpatient department Manage staff rotas, leave, and sickness to ensure adequate coverage.Monitor and improve patient flow, appointment scheduling, and clinic efficiency.Handle complaints, incidents, and service issues promptly and professionally.

Line manage nursing and support staff, conducting appraisals and performance reviews.Identify training needs and support professional development.Promote a culture of learning, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.Mentor junior staff and students.

Contribute to strategic planning and service redesign to improve patient experience.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to implement new pathways and clinics (e.g., oncology, urogynaecology, endometriosis).Use audit and feedback to drive service enhancements.Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and staff.Liaise with consultants, administrative teams, and other departments to ensure coordinated care.

Ensure compliance with CQC standards, infection control, safeguarding, and trust policies.Maintain accurate records and documentation.Participate in risk assessments and health & safety audits.

Education / Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid NMC registration.
  • Degree in Nursing or equivalent
  • Teaching or mentorship qualification (e.g., Practice Assessor).
  • Leadership or management qualification (or working towards).
Experience
  • Proven experience in Gynaecology or women's health services
  • Proven experience in managing Gynaecology outpatient services or clinical teams.
  • Previous experience in a Band 6 role and managing
  • Experience of delivering change
