Group Financial Controller at Liberty

Location: Knowsley
Salary: Competitive + Benefits
Contract: Full-time, 12‑15 month FTC role

Are you an experienced finance leader ready to make a significant impact? Liberty Group seek a Group Financial Controller to take charge of our finance, payroll, and processing functions, leading a team of 25 professionals. This is a pivotal role where you’ll ensure robust financial governance, accurate reporting and drive strategic improvements across the group

Your Role:
  • Lead the group finance, payroll, and processing teams, fostering a culture of excellence and compliance
  • Oversee monthly financial close processes, ensuring accurate consolidated balance sheets and management accounts
  • Govern balance sheet reconciliations and maintain strong valuation processes for all accounts
  • Harmonise accounting policies across Liberty Group and align with Wates Property Services
  • Manage intercompany consolidation, annual audits, and statutory accounts production
  • Ensure compliance with all business taxes (VAT, CIS, IR35, PAYE, etc.) and make key tax-related decisions
  • Oversee payroll and processing functions for timely and accurate operations
  • Drive key business improvement projects, including system implementations and transitions
  • Manage treasury functions and support transactions related projects
What we need from you:
  • Qualified ICAEW or ACCA Accountant with at least 8 years post‑qualification experience
  • Proven track record of leading sizeable finance teams
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards, tax compliance, and financial controls
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting software
  • Exceptional decision making abilities and a proactive approach to problem solving
