Freelance Grid Studies Specialist - G99 / P28 | 12-Month Contract | Outside IR35

Location: Remote
Rate: Competitive (Outside IR35)
Duration: 12 months
Start date: ASAP
Engagement: Freelance / Contract

We are supporting a leading ICP in their search for a Grid Studies Specialist to support upcoming grid connection applications and ensure technical compliance with UK DNO requirements. This is a freelance contract position, outside IR35, and offers the opportunity to work on a portfolio of grid-scale renewable energy projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver grid connection studies in line with G99, P28, and other relevant grid codes
• Perform network modelling and load flow analysis using tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, or similar
• Liaise directly with DNOs to support and progress grid applications
• Conduct harmonic assessments, fault level studies, and voltage analysis
• Support internal project teams through the connection offer and acceptance stages
• Provide advice on grid design and technical solutions to ensure efficient and compliant project delivery
• Prepare and review technical documentation, reports, and responses to DNOs or NGESO

Requirements

• Proven experience working on DNO-connected projects in the UK
• Strong understanding of UK Grid Code, particularly G99 and P28
• Hands-on experience with grid studies and network modelling tools
• Ability to interpret DNO connection requirements and manage communication with stakeholders
• Knowledge of HV transmission and distribution systems
• Excellent technical writing and reporting skills

Bonus (not required)

• Experience working on battery storage, solar PV, or onshore wind projects
• Familiarity with grid connections at both 132kV and 33kV levels
