Overview

Responsibilities
- Utilise the full skills of a midwife as defined by the World Health Organization to ensure individualized care for women and families.
- Manage individualized care for a defined group of mothers and babies using the assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating processes within the multidisciplinary framework.
- Support a twenty-four hour service including on-calls; shift patterns will be required.
- Develop with colleagues new practice initiatives that are evidence-based to ensure a first-class quality service.
- Maintain clinical competence and responsibility for professional development in all areas of midwifery to support continuing professional development and progression to Band 6.
- Facilitate a conducive environment for learners and staff to reach their full potential and enable career progression.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and attend meetings while promoting a positive team spirit.
- Use resources efficiently and effectively with regular review of personal and service objectives; ensure personal annual appraisal and Professional Midwifery Advocate reviews are performed.
- Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with risk management and statutory guidelines; report and act on accidents and incidents and maintain accurate records.
- Adhere to the NMC Code and meet the Standards of Proficiency for Midwifery.
Qualifications and Requirements

- Post details: rotation between labour ward and post/antenatal wards; opportunity to complete a preceptorship programme in line with the NHSE National Preceptorship Programme for Midwifery.
- This post is a 12-month fixed-term contract; NHSE funding supports the preceptorship package.
- Base sites: Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate, or William Harvey Hospital, Ashford. Relocation policy available for eligible candidates; car lease, on-site childcare, generous annual leave, discounts, and 24/7 staff support are among benefits.
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks are required where applicable; some roles require enhanced checks for unsupervised work with children or vulnerable adults; UK Visas and Immigration eligibility applies for Tier 2 sponsorship.
