Job description

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Salaried GP to join Andover Medical Centre for a 6-session maternity cover post, starting February 2026.The role includes 2-3 sessions per week dedicated to care home medicine, working closely with our Care Home Lead GP and multidisciplinary team. The remaining sessions will be standard GP clinical work. This position is ideal for a GP who enjoys continuity, complex care, and working within a supportive, collaborative team.

Main duties of the job

Care Home Sessions (2-3 weekly):

Provide comprehensive medical care to care home residents.

Conduct medication reviews, long-term condition management, and urgent assessments.

Complete and review personalised care plans in line with UCP requirements.

Liaise with the Care Home Lead GP, MDT partners, and care home staff.

General Clinical Sessions (3-4 weekly):

Deliver a mix of face-to-face, telephone, and online consultations.

Participate in the duty/triage rota proportionate to sessions.

Manage clinical administration including results, Docman, prescriptions, and tasks.

Contribute to safe, high-quality care, continuity, and patient satisfaction.

Andover Medical Centre is a long-established practice serving a diverse and highly deprived population in Islington. We are a friendly, collaborative, and forward-thinking team, soon relocating to a newly built council premises designed to improve patient access and staff working conditions.

We operate EMIS Web and have a strong multidisciplinary workforce including a Partner GPs, Salaried GPs, Care Home Lead GP, clinical pharmacist, Medical Secretary, practice nurses, and HCAs. Our reception team is care-navigation trained, and we run a triage-first appointment model to streamline workload. We pride ourselves on excellent teamwork, daily clinical huddles, continuity of care, and a strong commitment to patient safety.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities Care Home Sessions (23 sessions per week)
  • Provide proactive and reactive primary care to residents in the care home.

  • Conduct structured medication reviews and ongoing chronic disease management.

  • Complete and update personalised care plans, including Universal Care Plans (UCP).

  • Carry out face-to-face or remote assessments as clinically appropriate.

  • Work closely with the Care Home Lead GP, practice clinical team, community MDT, pharmacists, and care home staff.

  • Support frailty, complex care, and end-of-life care pathways in line with local and national standards.

General Practice Sessions (34 sessions per week)

Including routine clinics and participation in the duty doctor rota, proportionate to contracted sessions.

Clinical Duties:

  • Provide a mixture of face-to-face, telephone, and online consultations.

  • Manage acute presentations, routine care, and long-term condition reviews where appropriate.

  • Participate in the duty doctor / on-the-day triage rota, which includes:

    • Triage

    • Reviewing urgent queries and tasks

    • Supporting reception and care navigation

    • Making clinical decisions on appointment allocation

  • Undertake home visits when clinically required (rare, triage-first model).

  • Provide clinical oversight and decision-making support to the wider team during duty sessions.

Administrative Duties:

  • Review and action pathology results, clinical documents (Docman), and prescription requests.

  • Maintain clear, accurate clinical records in EMIS Web.

  • Contribute to continuity of care for patients and effective clinical handover.

Administrative and Professional Responsibilities
  • Work in line with GMC standards, NHS contractual requirements, and practice policies.

  • Participate in clinical meetings, MDT discussions, and audits as relevant to role.

  • Support QOF, IIF, and LES requirements proportionate to contracted sessions.

  • Maintain professional development and revalidation requirements.

  • Engage in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and governance activity.

Experience
  • Experience of working in UK general practice (training or post-CCT).
