Job description
Overview

Do you have experience of providing high quality health and social care and support? Are you compassionate, non-judgemental and person centred in your approach?

If yes, then why not find out more and apply for a post in our Greater Manchester Liaison and Diversion Service!

You will work as part of an established multi-disciplinary team who put the experience of people using our service at the forefront of everything we do. You will receive a full induction, bespoke training, structured supervision and access to opportunities that support your further development.

The service operates across the Greater Manchester region and you will be based from one of the eight Greater Manchester Police Custody Suites. You will work on a rota between 7am to 7pm seven days a week.

We work with people of all ages (10+) whose individual circumstances may have led them to be in contact with the criminal justice system. Our team strives to assess and identify areas of need and support them accordingly to improve their outcomes and hopefully keep them away from the criminal justice system in future.

We hold a National Lived Experience Charter Silver Award and welcome applications from people with lived experience.

As the role requires access to police systems and buildings in addition to enhanced DBS, you will also be subject to Non Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) which requires information about you, your family, your finances and a minimum of three years residency in the UK.

Key responsibilities
  • Work with police and others to better identify people living with a vulnerability relating to their health, diversity, difficulties and disabilities and social circumstances
  • Establish consent and spend time with people to gain an insight and understanding into their circumstances
  • Support children and young people, adults and older adults during the custody process and environment
  • Foster hope and belief that personal well-being and security is a reasonable expectation.
  • Agree and develop a ‘my plan’ with the person that acknowledges their choice, strengths and assets.
  • Sign post, refer people to and liaise with agencies that can best support and meet needs.
  • Provide quality and appropriate information to colleagues working in the custody environment and wider system.

Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) Foundation Trust employs over 6,400 members of staff, who deliver services from more than 160 locations.

We provide inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bolton, the city of Manchester, Salford, Trafford and the borough of Wigan, and a wide range of specialist mental health and substance misuse services across Greater Manchester, the north west of England and beyond.

Our people enjoy their work, have opportunities to learn and develop their skills and are encouraged to generate new ideas that improve care for our service users.
