We're looking for a Global Payments Banking & Expansion Manager to join our team and drive the next phase of Wise's global expansion. This role is a unique opportunity to have a massive impact on Wise's mission by revolutionising how we connect banking networks worldwide and empowering millions of people to move their money instantly across borders. Note - This is not a sales role - for that, see our Business Development roles.

Your mission is to help Wise become the global leader in cross-border payments by dramatically expanding our currency coverage and optimising our correspondent banking network. You'll be responsible for scaling our payment capabilities from 50+ to 175 currencies while localising our international receive product across our established network of 90+ banking partners.

What you'll be doing
  • Building money without borders globally: You will be at the forefront of eradicating hidden fees from the global payment chain, transforming traditional correspondent banking flows, and building the world's best correspondent network. Your work will directly impact millions of businesses and individuals who depend on transparent, fast international payments
  • Solving complex cross-border payment challenges: Expanding currency coverage at scale while maintaining speed, transparency, and cost-effectiveness is a problem that hasn't been solved properly industry-wide. You'll get to flex your creative, technical, and analytical muscles to design scalable payment infrastructure and processes that can handle diverse regulatory environments, banking standards, and local market requirements across 175+ currencies
  • Empowered to drive strategic expansion: This is highly strategic work that will lay the foundation for our product and engineering teams to build the world's best cross-border payment rails. Your decisions on currency prioritisation, banking partner selection, and network architecture will directly enable our technical teams to create scalable, efficient payment infrastructure that serves millions of customers
  • Leadership and partnership management: You'll work closely with our extensive banking partner network, building relationships that enable seamless localisation of our products while navigating complex regulatory and technical requirements across multiple jurisdictions
Payments Expertise
  • Extensive knowledge of correspondent banking, cross-border payment systems, and international financial regulations
  • Experience working with banking partners and understanding their technical and operational constraints
  • Hands‑on experience with payment operations, SWIFT messaging, local payment methods e.g. SEPA Instant, FPS, CHAPs, T2, and the regulatory nuances of different markets
Technical Skills
  • Comfortable working with engineers and product teams, earning their trust on complex payment integration projects
  • Understanding of engineering development processes in payment systems, with ability to proactively spot blockers and help unblock technical teams
Structured Thinking and Communication
  • Able to structure ambiguous, complex payment problems into clear actionable steps
  • Proactively collaborate with cross‑functional teams (ops/product/engineering/compliance) to break down problems
  • Able to explain complex payment concepts simply to diverse stakeholders
  • Able to build relationships across the organisation and with external banking partners
Entrepreneurial Hustler
  • Able to navigate organisations and find creative ways to unblock expansion initiatives
  • Don't get boxed into existing assumptions about payment flows, partner relationships, or market structures
  • Motivated by solving complex problems that others consider impossible
