Overview

Astute’s Power Team is exclusively partnered with an independent power producer to recruit for a General Manager to join their team in Grangemouth overseeing the operations and maintenance performance of an Energy from Waste Power Station.

Compensation

The General Manager role comes with a basic salary of up to £100,000 + up to 20% bonus + other excellent benefits.

Responsibilities and duties
  • Reporting to the Board, you will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring full compliance with SHEQA requirements by enforcing legislation, health and safety procedures, and the pollution prevention and controls permit
  • Ensure the Plant meets or surpasses financial targets set by the Board, while driving innovation and efficiency improvements within the asset and business.
  • Oversee and enhance plant operations in partnership with the O&M contractor, representing the Plant’s interests both short- and long-term through collaboration, challenge, and strong decision-making.
  • Fulfil obligations outlined in the Master Services Agreement
  • Oversee compliance with the Energy Supply Agreement and other Project Documents, ensuring technical, operational, financial, and commercial obligations are met
  • Develop and submit high-quality annual business plans and forecasts in collaboration with the team, securing Board and lender approval
  • Monitor and direct the O&M contractor’s management of key contracts, including calculating payments, financial receipts, revenue sharing, and revenues from waste and energy supply activities.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Ideally degree educated in a Business or Engineering subject
Personal skills, prior experience and knowledge

The General Manager role would suit someone who has:

  • Prior experience working in the Power Generation sector – ideally solid fuels such as Energy from Waste, Biomass or Coal
  • A result focussed, team player, who can demonstrate experience of working in a leadership role as part of a small team in a similar environment.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to produce reports on complex issues to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of identifying and drive business improvements
