Job description
  • Position: Funeral Operative
  • Salary: £28,000
  • Location: St Leonards
  • Hours: 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (includes on call rota)

One of the longest established family-run Undertakers is looking for a caring, emotionally resilient, and highly professional Funeral Operative to join its dedicated team. This is a deeply meaningful role that requires not only practical skill but also profound empathy and respect for those experiencing loss.

As a Funeral Operative, you will play a vital part in ensuring services are delivered with dignity, precision, and compassion. From the respectful removal and preparation of the deceased to supporting grieving families during funeral ceremonies, your presence will bring comfort and reassurance at a time when it’s needed most.

Responsibilities
  • Vehicle cleaning and maintenance to exceptional standards
  • Removal and care of the deceased in line with strict procedures and sensitivity
  • Preparation of deceased (excluding embalming) and coffins
  • Pall-bearing and funeral driving duties
  • Maintaining sanitary and hygienic working environments
  • Accurate data entry and care record updates
  • Participation in out-of-hours call-out rota
  • Supporting families and care homes with professionalism and empathy
  • Adhering to GDPR and infection control policies
Requirements

  • Emotionally stable able to handle sensitive situations with grace
  • Organised and proactive, with a strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Flexible and reliable, able to adapt to changing daily needs
  • Respectful and discreet always upholding the dignity of the deceased
  • Comfortable with physical tasks, including lifting and driving
  • A full, valid UK car driving licence is essential due to the nature of the role
