Overview

We are working with a specialist SEN/PRU school in Yeovil dedicated to transforming education for pupils aged 7‑16 with diverse needs, including communication and interaction challenges, cognition and learning difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs, and sensory or physical needs.

This school provides a safe, nurturing space for students who cannot attend mainstream education, including those at risk of exclusion or managing mental health challenges. Their mission is to unlock every child’s potential through tailored learning experiences.

As an HLTA / Cover Supervisor, you’ll lead topic‑based learning sessions with a strong focus on Food Technology, teaching essential cooking skills, encouraging creativity, and helping students understand the world through practical, hands‑on lessons.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging Food Technology and general topic‑based lessons that build confidence and independence
  • Support pupils with SEN and behavioural needs in a positive, structured environment
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to create inclusive learning experiences
  • Use positive behaviour strategies and de‑escalation techniques
Qualifications & Experience
  • Enhanced Child‑Only DBS (on the Update Service) is desirable
  • Experience or qualifications in Food Technology or topic‑based learning
  • A caring, patient, and resilient approach
  • Previous SEN experience in or out of an educational setting
  • Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations
