Job Summary
Teaching Personnel are recruiting for a Food Technology and Design Technology Cover Supervisor to support a secondary school in Portsmouth. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for both practical learning and creative subjects, playing a key role in maintaining engaging lessons and supporting student progress across Key Stages 3 and 4.
Responsibilities
- Deliver pre‑set lessons in both Food Technology and Design Technology in the absence of the class teacher.
- Ensure students remain engaged, focused, and safe during practical and theory sessions.
- Assist with preparing ingredients, materials, tools, and equipment needed for both practical workshops and kitchen‑based lessons.
- Supervise Food Tech and DT classes, keep students motivated, follow lesson plans, and organise required resources for practical activities.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, and hygiene in the classroom, kitchen, or workshop.
- Support students with hands‑on tasks by offering clear guidance.
- Manage behaviour in line with school policies.
- Provide general administrative or departmental support when needed.
Qualifications
- Confidence supervising secondary‑aged students.
- Enthusiasm for food, design, and practical problem‑solving.
- Organised, proactive, and able to adapt confidently to different subject areas.
- Strong communication and classroom management skills.
- Experience in a school environment is helpful but not essential.
- Interest or background in Food Technology, catering, Design Technology, engineering, or similar practical subjects is desirable.
- All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
