Job Title: Food Technology Teacher - Autism Specialist Secondary School
Location: Harborne, Birmingham
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full‑time, Temp to Perm
Pay: Main Pay Scale (UPS considered)
As a Food Technology Teacher, you will:
Teach Food Technology across KS3, KS4 and KS5
Deliver differentiated lessons tailored to autism-specific learning profiles
Promote independence, confidence, communication and life skills
Ensure safe management of practical cooking sessions, equipment and materials
Adjust tasks and environments to support sensory needs, allergies and EHCP targets
Maintain excellent standards of food hygiene and kitchen safety
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists and SEN specialists
Support accreditation, qualifications and personalised learning pathways
Contribute to curriculum development rooted in autism‑informed practice
QTS or QTLS (Food Tech or related discipline)
Experience teaching Food Tech teacher in a school setting (SEN/autism desirable)
Strong understanding of sensory needs, communication differences and EHCPs
Excellent organisational skills and practical subject knowledge
Calm, patient, low‑arousal approach with firm but supportive behaviour management
Ability to build trusting relationships and promote independence
Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
