Exclusive to Trial Balance Consulting

Financial Controller - Launceston / Hybrid - £45-50,000

TrialBalance Consulting are delighted to have been exclusively engaged by a specialist services business with big plans! The company is well established, highly respected and has achieved formidable growth in recent years. And they care about their staff too. So much so that they’re currently transitioning to an entirely employee owned business model. They’ve tasked us with sourcing their Financial Controller, a brand new role that sits below a highly experienced Finance Director but with strong potential for the successful candidate to succeed this person (2-3 year action plan). This is a full permanent, full time opportunity that can offer hybrid and flexible working potential for the right candidate.

This is a pivotal role within the company and one where the successful candidate will work closely with the existing Finance Director, assuming key operational responsibility for the day-to-day success of the finance function. The successful candidate will also assume frontline support of a small but experienced accounting team. Key features of the role to include :

  • Lead responsibility for transactional accounting protocols and maintaining robust internal controls
  • Management of a small but experienced team including an accomplished Assistant Accountant
  • Work closely with the Finance Director across all aspects of the company’s ongoing financial strategy and growth projects
  • Production of weekly, monthly and quarterly management reports
  • Allocation of frequently complex income and funding streams
  • Work with FD to produce high quality budget packs
  • Treasury controls
  • Cost controls
  • Ensure compliance to all relevant reporting standards
  • Identify and implement improvements to the function
  • Production and delivery of detailed management accounts
  • Ensure efficient supplier payment processes
  • Assist with annual audits
  • Deputise for FD during periods of absence
  • Oversee payroll for almost 200 staff

Think you’ve got what it takes? We’re looking for an exceptionally well trained and experienced Financial Controller that possesses strong technical experience with sound commercial judgement. We’re open to applicants operating at a similar level currently, or seeking a step up, perhaps from Finance Manager or a highly experienced Assistant Accountant.

We’re seeking a candidate who feels as comfortable with management reporting as they do statutory accounting, budgeting, forecasting and benchmarking. Our client is open to both part / fully professionally qualified applicants (ACA / ACCA / CIMA), or with very strong vocational experience (QBE), and / or AAT. What’s on offer to the successful candidate? A great starting salary with enhanced benefits, a hybrid / flexible working arrangement (1-2 based off site if required), and a genuine opportunity to progress to Finance Director with a highly successful and respected business.
