PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Make Events is a dynamic business specialising in creating and producing innovative and memorable events and experiences for an impressive portfolio of clients. With the recent appointment of a Managing Director and a Non-Executive Chairman, the company is entering an exciting phase of significant expansion over the next three years.

The Finance Manager will play a pivotal role in underpinning robust financial control and reporting, providing insight and guidance to support the business as it scales. This is an opportunity to contribute to the company’s growth journey, ensuring that financial strategy, management information, and operational oversight align with ambitious strategic objectives.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Full responsibility for the production, accuracy, and presentation of monthly management accounts.
  • Perform variance analysis against budgets and forecasts to maintain strong cost control.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial reports to the Board in a clear and relevant format.
  • Produce weekly cash flow forecasts.
  • Work closely with the MD and fractional FD to develop and refine monthly management information (MI).
  • Ensure monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts.
  • Coordinate the annual budgeting process.
  • Review payroll processes and PAYE/NI reconciliations.
  • Manage quarterly VAT compliance.
  • Serve as primary contact for external accountants and bookkeeper.
  • Oversee credit control processes to maintain healthy cash flow.
  • Manage accounts payable processes.
  • Approve and oversee reconciliations for individual event projects.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Experience in the Events industry or a similarly fast-moving, dynamic, and reactive environment.
  • Ability to work autonomously and communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels, explaining and contextualising financial concepts and implications.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to proactively develop and enhance management information to support business decision‑making.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with CRM systems such as HubSpot and Procim is desirable.
  • Experienced in preparing and interpreting monthly balance sheet reconciliations, particularly accruals, prepayments, and deferred income.
  • Skilled in financial modelling, budgeting, and cash flow forecasting, especially in contexts with significant advance customer payments.
  • Working knowledge of Corporation Tax regulations.
