Responsibilities

The Role

As a Finance Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Providing critical business partnering support to the NSIGN bid directors, as well as other key supporting functions and the wider Marine Programmes leadership and delivery teams. You will be pivotal in developing Babcock’s support solution, assisting the bid and business leadership teams to enhance our position as a long-term partner to the MoD through an improved and longer contractual agreement.

Day-to-day, you’ll use your knowledge and experience of how Babcock delivers surface ship support to the MoD to agree key assumptions and influence pricing decisions during the bid. Leaning on this experience, you will build strong working relationships with key stakeholders across the enterprise, including the delivery teams, Project Managers and key customer contacts, to ensure best practice is followed, prior lessons are learned and ultimately financial performance is maximised:

  • Finance lead for a bid; main point of contact for the bid team.
  • Management of bid costs to ensure all costs are captured, understood, reviewed and recovered.
  • Liaison with customer bid teams, attendance at customer workshops.
  • Provision of financial assumptions for bidding and internal forecasting purposes.
  • Integral part of the Marine Programmes finance team, assisting Head of Finance and Finance Director where necessary.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and requires regular travel to Plymouth or Bristol, on a weekly basis alongside home working arrangements.

Essential Experience
  • Strong communicator, ability to work with individuals at various levels of the organisation.
  • Ability and desire to take a hands-on approach, willing to get into the detail but also see the big picture.
  • Drive for continuous improvement, and comfortable questioning the status quo.
  • Strong character; willing and comfortable to challenge.
Qualifications
  • You must hold a recognised professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent / similar.
