Job Description

Target Business Services Position: Full Time – Permanent
Location: 184 Welshpool road, Welshpool WA 6106
Salary: $185,000 Plus 12% Superannuation. Our client, Western Motors Car Wholesalers, is an established vehicle wholesaler and retailer based in Welshpool, servicing the Perth metropolitan region with a large, hand‑picked inventory of new and used vehicles. They operate a full‑service dealership offering on‑site finance solutions, vehicle servicing/repairs, parts & accessories and extended warranty options — positioning themselves as a one‑stop automotive hub for both retail customers and trade buyers.

Western Motors runs fixed‑price, hassle‑free buying and trade‑in programs and has access to a nationwide dealer network — they also ship vehicles Australia‑wide and provide competitive, specialist finance packages to customers. Reporting to the Director/Owner, the Finance Controller will be the finance lead for the dealership and will own financial planning, reporting, compliance and commercial decision‑support across the business. This is a senior, hands‑on role where you’ll shape budgeting and forecasting, manage accounting operations, and provide timely, accurate financial insights that support vehicle purchasing, trade‑in valuations, finance offerings and operational performance.

You will work closely with bookkeeping, payroll and external advisers, optimise the dealer management and accounting systems, ensure GST and payroll compliance, and drive improvements to internal controls and cash‑flow management to support Western Motors’ growth and margins.

Qualifications & experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 2+ years’ progressive experience in a senior finance role; automotive retail/wholesale or dealer experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing management accounts, budgets, forecasts and statutory reporting.
  • Proven experience with accounting systems and dealer management systems (DMS); familiarity with MYOB/Xero/Oracle/Dealer DMS is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of GST, payroll, BAS lodgements, and Australian corporate compliance requirements.
What you will be responsible for:
  • Develop, implement and review budgeting strategies and accounting policies in consultation with the Director and department managers.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly management accounts, including income statements, balance sheets, cash‑flow forecasts and commentary on results and KPIs.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of the DMS/accounting system(s) to ensure accurate stock, sales and finance reporting.
  • Lead month‑end and year‑end financial close processes, liaising with external accountants and auditors.
  • Provide forward‑looking financial analysis and interpret implications for business performance, pricing and funding needs.
  • Produce long‑range profit forecasts, rolling budgets and scenario analyses to support vehicle purchasing and inventory decisions.
  • Assess capital finance proposals and operational project financial status (facility purchases, yard fit‑outs, IT investments).
  • Advise the leadership team on investment strategies, sources of funds, and distribution of earnings to optimise working capital and margins.
  • Ensure compliance with Australian financial legislation, taxation (GST), payroll obligations and dealer licensing reporting.
  • Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank reconciliations and treasury activities; manage cash‑flow to meet day‑to‑day obligations.
  • Supervise and mentor finance / admin staff (bookkeeper, payroll), set accounting controls and deliver continuous improvement to processes.
Skills, experience and attributes:
  • Excellent advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capability — able to convert transactional data into commercial insight.
  • Hands‑on leader who can manage day‑to‑day accounting while setting strategy and controls.
  • Strong communicator — able to explain financial information clearly to non‑finance stakeholders.
