Financial Controller

Marketing Leading High Growth SME Group

Eaton Syalon is partnering exclusively with a market‑leading UK group based in Burton to recruit a Financial Controller. With multiple successful trading divisions, the business is continuing to grow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach and develop a team of six finance professionals across transactional finance, reporting and payroll
  • Oversee the full monthly financial reporting cycle across three UK business units, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery.
  • Perform detailed reviews of management accounts, highlighting trends, performance drivers and risks.
  • Strengthen financial controls, accounting policies, and month‑end processes.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Manage day‑to‑day banking processes, including payments, reconciliations and cash management.
  • Produce rolling cashflow forecasts, ensuring strong working capital control and early identification of funding needs.
  • Oversee relationships with banking partners and support optimisation of facilities (if applicable).
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, working cross‑functionally with Sales, Marketing, Operations and HR.
  • Produce quarterly reforecasts, scenario models and sensitivity analysis to support decision‑making.
  • Partner with commercial teams to review pricing, margin initiatives, new product launches and strategic projects.
  • Support business cases and investment appraisals with robust financial modelling.
  • Take ownership of monthly payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely submission.
  • Drive improvements across payroll, accounts payable/receivable and internal controls.
  • Manage the external audit process, ensuring a smooth and well‑prepared audit cycle.
  • Maintain a strong focus on compliance, financial discipline and continuous process improvement.
  • Support the Group Finance Director and senior leadership team on ad‑hoc projects, strategic initiatives, systems improvements and performance reviews.
Skills & Personal Attributes
Essential
  • Excellent communication skills—comfortable presenting to senior leaders and influencing stakeholders across the business.
  • Strong team leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and develop people.
  • Advanced Excel capability, including data manipulation and reporting automation.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving and organisational skills.
  • Relationship builder with a proactive, hands‑on approach.
Desirable
  • Experience working with multiple ERP systems.
  • Understanding of banking facilities and treasury processes.
  • Payroll knowledge.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Fully qualified accountant: ACCA, ACA or CIMA.
  • Demonstrable experience in a senior finance role (Finance Manager, Senior Management Accountant, Financial Controller or similar).
  • Experience working within multi‑entity, product‑led, or operationally complex businesses is beneficial.
